C 5 PO By JJ Date -zi !yq We received a request to extend the existing no parking zone along the Hamakua side of Ponahawai Street to improve sight distance for vehicles exiting the Ponahawai Medical Center parking lot. This parking restriction will also provide additional maneuvering space for Fire Department vehicles exiting their driveway which is located almost directly across the area where parking is presently allowed. We request that the attached proposed bill of the Hawaii County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10, Section 24-280, Schedule 28 under Hilo be amended. The removal of these parking spaces should not have an adverse effect on parking availability as the Ponahawai Medical Center is in the process of constructing a new 22 stall parking lot in back of their facility. This parking lot will be serviced by the existing driveway on Ponahawai Street. Chapter 24, article 10, section 24-280, subsection (c), relating to no parking zones, is amended by adding the following items to be appropriately numbered and to read as follows: "( ) Ponahawai Street, both sides, beginning at Ululani Street and extending seventy-five feet in the mauka direction. SECTION L. This proposal would improve sight distance at the Ponahawai Medical Center Driveway on the Hamakua side of Ponahawai Street and also provide better access and maneuverability for the Fire Department vehicles exiting and entering the fire station on the puna side. It is also noted that the parking restriction would not have an adverse affect on the medical center parking availability as they are in the process of constructing a twenty-two lot parking area behind their facility. Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 5, Section 24-280, Schedule 28, Subsection (C) South Hilo, of the Hawaii County Code 1983, related to no -parking at any time, is amended by deleting the following: "( ) Ponahawai Street, Hamakua side, beginning at Ululani Street and extending one hundred fifty feet in the makai direction." Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 5, Section 24-280, Schedule 28, Subsection (C) South Hilo, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 is further amended by adding the following: "( ) Ponahawai Street, on the Hamakua side, Kinoole Street to Ululani Street." Bill No. 183 was inadvertently excluded from the agenda, therefore, the Chairman has waived the referral of the bill to the full Council.
