Lai Chairwoman, Committee on Public Works County Council County of Hawaii 25 Aupuni Street Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Dear Councilwoman Lai: SUBJECT: Effect of Wailoa Bridge Replacement on Reconversion of Traffic Pattern in Downtown Hilo Thank you for your letter and for giving us the opportunity to comment on the proposed traffic pattern changes for downtown Hilo. We believe the internal downtown traffic pattern has stabilized since the start of Wailoa Bridge construction project. We have no objections to the proposed traffic pattern except that we recommend Ponahawai Street be two way as it will provide direct linkage between Kamehameha and Komohana. It will help relieve traffic not wanting to go through downtown area and will afford an alternate choice to the public. For a similar reason, two way on WailUku Drive is recommended. Again, thank you for considering our opinion in this matter. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to call me at 935-3397. Very truly yours, I ALVAH T.
