The Traffic Division of the Department of Public Works requests that the
attached proposed bill of the Hawaii County Code be amended.
These amendments will establish speed limits on the remaining portions of
these roadways and will aid police in enforcement.

ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE 10, OF THE HAWAII
COUNTY CODE 1983, RELATING TO TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 24, article 10, division 1,
section 24-257, schedule 5, of the Hawaii County Code 1983,
relating to 35 -mile -per -hour speed limit zones, is amended by
adding a new item to be appropriately numbered and to read as
follows:
"( ) Kumukoa Street from Mohouli Street to Lanikaula
Street."
SECTION 2. Chapter 24, article 10, division 1,
section 24-257(32), schedule 5, of the Hawaii County Code 1983,
relating to 35 -mile -per -hour speed limit zones, is amended to read
as follows:
"(32) Manono Street, from Kamehameha Avenue to [Piilani
Street.] Kawili Street."
SECTION 3. Chapter 24, article 10, division 1,
section 24-258(11), schedule 6, of the Hawaii County Code 1983,
relating to 35 -mile -per -hour maximum speed limit zones, is amended
to read as follows:
"(11) Lanikaula Street, from [Kilauea] Kumukoa Street to
Kanoelehua Avenue."
SECTION 4: Material to be repealed is bracketed. New
material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the
brackets, bracketed material, and underscoring need not be
included.
SECTION 5. If any provision of this ordinance or the
application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid,
such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications
of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid
provision or application, and to this end, the provisions of this
ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION 6. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.

Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Communication
No. 14 and its attached Bill No. 6, reports as follows:
Bill No. 6 proposes to amend Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 1 of
the Hawaii County Code 1983, relating to the 35 MPH Speed Limit zones
as follows:
1. Add a new item to Section 24-257, Schedule 5 to read:
"( ) Kumukoa Street, from Mohouli Street to Lanikaula
Street.
2. Amend Section 24-257(32), Schedule 5 to read:
"(32) Manono Street, from Kamehameha Avenue to [Piilani
Street.] Kawili Street."
3. Amend Section 24-258(11), Schedule 6 to read:
"(11) Lanikaula Street, from [Kilauea] Kumukoa Street to
Kanoelehua Avenue."
Communication No. 14 explains that speed limits will be established
on the remaining.parts of these roadways and will aid police in
enforcement.
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord with the intent and
purpose of Bill No. 6 and recommends its passage on first reading by
the County Council. /
