ECONOtY11C IMPACTS
While providing public benefits, every dollar spent
on public infrastructure also results in significant
economic benefits. This report quantifies the -cam
economic impact for major long-term projects, _
both publicly and privately funded over the next 20
years. It emphasizes the importance and impact of
investing public funds into our infrastructure and i Bridge, Island of Kauai
encouraging private sector development. Kalihrwaa nd
Many of the projects listed are critical components
for the planned growth to the state and our
community. The scheduled construction is part of a
critical path to achieve this end. If it is pushed back,
so are progress and benefits to the public.
—Every-zami Spent on
public infrastructure also results in
signifuant economic benefits.
This study can be used by various government sectors
to integrate capital improvement projects, especially
significant infrastructure projects, into their budgets.
Additionally, it can be factored in funding strategies
such as the Hawaii CEDS program.
Economic impact often correlates directly to the
size and cost of the project. However, often, less
expensive projects indirectly impact quality of life
as well as the economy. Many of these projects
are not currently budgeted; thus, the construction
cost and construction schedule provided should be
considered conservative estimates.
The purpose of this Phase H study
is to identify significant
infrastructure projects in
the state over the next 20 years.
