KE: BILL NC. 45, DRAFT 2, OPERATING BUDGET ADJUSTMENT
'.loha, Hawaii County Council Members:
It has been brought to my attenticn that the County o>r Hawaii
::osnty Council is proposing that the BIG budget be elimir.a*_ed fr~c~
roasideration.
cannct believe that the engine driving our economy (tourism) i=
~erng subject to the possibility of not having support from t'r.e
C'oanty of Hawaii. Over the last couple of years, our county has
hec!: making remarkable gains in marY,et share and th'_s could not
La~;e been possible without the suppcrt of the County of 3awaii anc
tr.o efforts of the Big Island Group in promoting our island as a
~cctination.
'rL~ile we continually see more and more dollars being poured into
~'_her states ahd counties to promote their own areas for tourism,
= s^ems unthinkable that we would eliminate our suppcrt for
~.o_iLism on this island.
t! in-k we have to understand that a support of tourism _s a:-.
_'nvestment and not a giveaway as many of the requests that come
i:efore the Council are.
1 'rye you to reconsider your proposal. Thank you.
Sincerely,
t
