Subject: Testimony for our Kona Soil and Water Conservation District
To our dear County Council,
We have been farming in Kona for over 30 years. We have two established and successful farms, one with Kona
coffee and avocado and the other an organic mango farm. We have just purchased 125 acres in Honalo and plan
to farm this. We used the Kona SWCD extensively to help with our 2 farms and now we desperately need their
help and advise on this newly acquired piece of property. We derive 100% of our income from farming in Kona,
so you can understand why we rely so heavily on our SWCD. As Hawaii Island is a great agricultural community,
they are an invaluable resource. We need them to secure the future of farming on our island. Please, please do
not cut any of our SWCD's funding.
With much aloha, Brooks and Bill Wakefield
