RESOLUTION NO. 240 15
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOPE SERVICES
HAWAII, INC., TO PURCHASE BUNK BEDS FOR THE KIHEI PUA EMERGENCY
HOMELESS SHELTER IN EAST HAWAII.
WHEREAS, Hope Services Hawai`i, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable
organization that serves families, youth, and single adults located throughout Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, Hope Services Hawai`i, Inc., provides support to those who are
economically and socially disadvantaged and in need of immediate assistance; and
WHEREAS, the programs provided by Hope Services Hawai`i, Inc., are designed to help
homeless populations attain the basic resources necessary to maintain health, personal safety, and
quality of life, while also providing services that develop the skills and resources needed to
achieve self-sufficiency and stable housing; and
WHEREAS, funds are needed to help with the costs associated with the purchase of
12 bunk beds to be utilized in the Kihei Pua Emergency Homeless Shelter in East Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, the replacement bunk beds will consist of a metal frame that has a longer
use-life and is able to distribute a greater weight capacity; and
WHEREAS, the mattresses are designed to resist bed-bug infestations, an issue common
to homeless shelters and congregate living that comprise of people who live a transient life style;
and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to
the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Hope Services Hawai`i, Inc., to
purchase 12 bunk beds to be utilized in the Kihei Pua Emergency Homeless Shelter in East
Hawai`i; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance
is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
