SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
(Ululani Street: Proposed No Parking Zone)
We received a request to extend the no parking zone on the makai side of
Ululani Street by Ponahawai Street. Parked vehicles on this side of the
roadway reduces the available turning radius for motorists entering
Ululani Street from Ponahawai Street.
The proposed no parking zone will provide additional maneuvering space
and improve traffic safety at this intersection.
We request that the -attached proposed bill of the Hawaii County Code,*
Chapter 24, Article 10, Section 24-280, Schedule 28 (No Parking Anytime)
under South Hilo, be amended.
A location map is attached for your information and use.

ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE 10, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY
CODE 1983, RELATING TO TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 24, article 10, division 5,
section 24-280, schedule 28, subsection (c), South Hilo, of the
Hawaii County Code 1983, relating to no parking at anytime, is
amended by adding a new item to be appropriately numbered and to
read as follows:
If( ) Ululani Street, makai side, beQinnin4 at
P nahawai Street and ex endin vent -five fee, in the Hamakua
direction."
SECTION 3. New material is underscored. In printing this
ordinance, the underscoring need not be included.
SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance or the
application thereof to any person or circumstance is held
invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or
applications of the ordinance which can be given effect without
the invalid provision or application, and to this end, the
provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.

SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.

Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Communication
No. 420 and its attached Bill No. 83 reports as follows:
Bill No. 83 proposes to amend Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 5,
Section 24-280, Schedule 28, Subsection (c), South Hilo, of the
Hawaii County Code 1983, by adding the following:
"( ) Ululani Street, makai side, beginning at Ponahawai Street
and extending seventy-five feet in the Hamakua direction."
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord with the intent and
purpose of Bill No. 83 and recommends its passage on first reading by
the County Council.
