Subject: I support Bill 71
Dear County Council Members,
My name is Amber shouse and I am a student at UH Hilo. I am writing to ask you to please support Bill 71.
Spraying chemical pesticides in public places is not only bad for our health but also seriously damages our
environment. Please consider how special and sensitive that Hawaii's ecosystem really is and the positive
impact that you can have for generations to come just by supporting this bill. Please know that there are
alternative and affordable ways to naturally kill weeds, such as simply spraying salt water. There is also the
alternative of the county planting edible cover -crops such as sweet potato and spinach which will not only
manage weeds on there own but will also add to the beauty of our island and and improve Hawaii's image as
being one of the leading "green" (sustainable) states in our country. Please think about the keiki, the aina, and
all of our well-being. Please support Bill 71.
