RESOLUTION NO. 262 15
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII
ISLAND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD, INC., TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES
RELATED TO `IMILOA ASTRONOMY CENTER'S MOBILE SCIENCE OUTREACH
PROGRAM FOR SCHOOLS IN THE PUNA DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, Hawaii Island Economic Development Board, Inc., (HIEDB) is a
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide and promote private sector support
and expertise for balanced growth in Hawaii County in partnership with Federal, State, County,
and private resources; and
WHEREAS, `Imiloa Astronomy Center is a world-class museum and planetarium
complex that showcases scientific discoveries from the astronomical observatories on Mauna a
Wakea, within the framework of native Hawaiian traditions of navigation and exploration; and
WHEREAS, in collaboration with HIEDB, `Imiloa Astronomy Center will offer a
Mobile Science Outreach Program of culture-based science, technology, engineering, arts, and
math(STEAM) education to schools in the Puna district, which targets up to 1,000 students and
teachers in grades 3-9; and
WHEREAS, financial assistance is needed to cover teacher training workshops, program
supplies, travel expenses, and equipment setup/breakdown; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to
the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Hawaii Island Economic
Development Board, Inc., to assist with expenses related to `Imiloa Astronomy Center's Mobile
Science Outreach Program for schools in the Puna district; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
