Subject: The amendment that would be more restrictive to where future geothermal
development is permissible.
Aloha county council members,
I am writing to let you know that my family and I are opposed to geothermal exploration on the slopes of Hualalai.
Growing up on the Big Island I had always thought since I was a kid that geothermal energy was great way of tapping
into a beneficial energy source. But now after hearing many testimonies of people that live next to the Puna Geothermal
plants i have completely changed my opinion. With all the accounts of gas leaks causing seriously detrimental health
effects I am really scared about the future effects geothermal plants could have on the Kona community. I believe that
when looking for future energy sources for the island of Hawaii, Technologies such as solar are far more sustainable
without the negative impacts of geothermal.
