Dear Chairman Chung,
This fetter is to clarify the funding requirements of BIMAC's Operation Miconia for FY99/00.
When we made our $75,000 request to the County Council, our funding situation looked bleak.
We were anticipating receiving only $25,000 from the 99 DLNR budget. Since then, Senator
Andrew Levin had introduced legislaCion (SB 1494) for a supplemental appropriation in the amount
of $175,000. That is the total amount needed to secure matching federal dollars in our grant
applications.
We can not know in advance how much money will be allocated by the Legislature and how much
money will be released by the Governor for miconia operations from July 99 through June 2000.
We would like to assure the County Council that we are seeking funding sufficient for a full
program that would halt the miconia infestations in West Hawaii as well as continue our successful
control operations in East Hawaii. We are asking the Council to continue their support for us. If
any amount less than $175,000 is released to our program, we will be needing Council financial
support.
1 am out of state for the month of February, but please do not hesitate to contact Jim Jacobi if
further information is Deeded. Ph 967-7396 ext. 229
Thank you for your support,
