RESOLUTION NO. 274 15
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KALANI HONUA FOR
THE PUNA RESILIENCY BLOCK PARTY.
WHEREAS, Kalani Honua is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that presents culture,
nature, and wellness within sustainable, educational programs that honor Hawai`i's diverse
heritage; and
WHEREAS, Kalani Honua has supported positive community events such as the Puna
Music Festival and the Puna Culinary Festival, and will continue to do so by supporting the Puna
Resiliency Block Party; and
WHEREAS, the Puna Resiliency Block Party, scheduled for October 24, 2015, in Pahoa
Village, will celebrate the unconquerable spirit of Puna; and
WHEREAS, the Puna Resiliency Block Party will benefit local businesses and will build
connections among Puna residents, community organizations, and first responder agencies to
help better prepare for future natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, the Puna Resiliency Block Party will feature live music, artwork, Puna food
vendors,Neighborhood Watch organizations, Community Emergency Response Teams, and
agencies involved in supporting emergency preparedness; and
WHEREAS, Kalani Honua has requested funds to cover costs related to the Puna
Resiliency Block Party to include but not limited to permits, cleanup, security, sanitation,
promotion, materials, supplies, and entertainment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Kalani Honua for expenses
relating to the Puna Resiliency Block Party; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
