Aloha,
Mahalo nui loa for your service regarding the wellbeing of Hawaii County. I appreciate your work.
I am writing to support County Bill 71. I support prohibiting the use of herbicides, especially glyphosate or
"Round up," on all County spaces.
I have witnessed with alarm County workers applying herbicides right up to the shoreline. I believe science and
Native Hawaiian cultural belief that land and water is connected. If we poison our land, our waters become
poisoned. It is not in the long term, best interest of our County to continue using cancer-causing glyphosate in
places our children play.
We can begin the transition to other weed controlling methods now.
My family supports banning glyphosate in County places. We can be a leader for other counties in Hawaii to
ban glyphosate while following countries like France and Switzerland to find and systematize alternatives.
