Dear Council Members -
Vote YES on Bill 71.

Thank you for your wisdom and courage to do the right thing for the health of our
Island's citizens.
There is no doubt that glyphosate/Roundup causes cancer. I attached a research article
on breast cancer from glyphosate.
The women of our Island who are trying to recover from Breast Cancer will have the
right to sue the county if they continue to be sprayed with Roundup.
Please- stop the poisoning of our people.
Dr Anthony Samsel:
"I'm looking at a Biodynamics report here as Project number 77-2062, 'A Lifetime
Feeding Study of Glyphosate in Rats,' and every page of this document says, 'Contains
trade secret or otherwise confidential information of Monsanto Company.' I have a letter
here from Monsanto's health and safety officer. He was the head guy at Monsanto at the
time, back in 1981. In his letter, he asked the US EPA to seal the documents and to
treat them as trade secret. I personally feel that this is a violation of the public review
process...
Now that I've looked at Monsanto's trade secret documents that the public doesn't have
access to, I'm in the process of writing the Environmental Protection Agency and I'm
asking them to release those. They have no right to withhold that information from the
public. Because what I've seen in those documents, it clearly shows that Monsanto
knew in 1981 that glyphosate caused tumorigenic growth and carcinomas in
multiple organs and tissues... At the rate we're going, ° '

Abstract
Glypfl,6Sat.e is an active ingredient of the most widely used herbicide and it is believed to
be less toxic than other pesticides. However, several recent studies showed its potential
adverse health effects to litiniatis as it may bean endocrine disruptor. "l his. study focuses
on: the effects of pure glyphosate, on estrogen receptors (ERs) mediated transcriptional
,
activity, and their expressions. Glyphosate exerted proliferative effectsonly in human
hormone -dependent breast cancer, T47D cells, butnotin hormorie-independent.,breast
cancer, !vWA-MB2_3 )I cells, at I 0-1 to I 0_'6l in estrogen withdrawal condition. The
proliferative concentrations of glyphosate that induced the activation of estrogen response
element (ERE) transcription activity were 5-13 fald of control in T47D-KBluc cells and
this activation was inhibited by an estrogen antagonist, ICI '192780, indicating that the
estrogenic activity of glyphosate was mediated via ERs. Furthermore, glyphosate also
altered both ER(4 and P o; pression. These results indicated that low and, environmentally
relevant concentrations of glyphosate possessed estrogenic activity. Glyphosate -based
herbicides are widely used for soybean cultivation, and our results also f4und that there
was an additive estrogenic effect between glyphosate and trenistein, a phytoestrogen- in'
soybeans, 1-lowever. these additive effects of glyphosate contamination'in- soybeans need
further animal study.
