Subject: Bill 77 and Res. 249-1S
Dear County Council Members,
This is is regarding bill 77 and Res 249-15 both regarding geothermal. I am an emergency medicine physician
who will be moving to big island shortly. I have multiple family members on the Big Island and am concerned
about the bill and resolution. Money designated to help families negatively affected by geothermal should do
just that. It should not go to administrative fees, salaries, but to those actually harmed by geothermal. There are
clearly negative health affects from hydrogen sulfide and other gases/toxins from geothermal, especially during
blowouts. The baseline emissions from -these power plants put stress on humans antioxidant metabolic systems,
which are often overtaxed. When these antioxidant systems can't keep up with the demands on them, heart
disease, cancers, strokes, and other major health issues arise. Even if geothermal power plants are not in zoned
residential area, there are people that live in agricultural zoned lands. It is not right to let them be sacrificial
lambs because there are fewer of them. Solar power is a clean and sustainable energy source and when there is
a blowout from too much energy production, we call that a really hot day and put your fari on to cool
down. When there is a geothermal blowout and large doses of hydrogen sulfide are released, people die as it
neurotoxin at high doses. I hope you do what is right and vote no on both bill 77 and resolution 249-
