RESOLUTION NO. 281 15
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO THE DEPARTMENT
OF PARKS AND RECREATION FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE HILO
SEGMENT OF THE 2015 JAPAN TRAINING SQUADRON GOODWILL TOUR.
WHEREAS, it has been nearly 50 years since the Japan Training Squadron made Hilo
one of its destinations; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Japan Training Squadron is to develop seamanship in the
newly commissioned officers, to cultivate their minds as future leaders, and to promote mutual
understanding and goodwill with the countries that are visited; and
WHEREAS, during its visit, the members of the Squadron will take part in community
projects and public activities, which in the past have included participation in cleaning
Lili`uokalani Gardens or the Walter C.K. Victor Baseball Complex, cleaning and repairing the
Ireito Monument at 'Alae Cemetery, and performing at a matsuri-style public event; and
WHEREAS, one of the Department of Parks and Recreation's goals is to promote mutual
understanding and cultural support for the many diverse cultures in our County; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the
Department of Parks and Recreation to provide funding for expenses related to the Hilo segment
of the 2015 Japan Training Squadron Goodwill Tour; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
