RE: Resolution Urging Hawaii's Congressional Delegation to Propose and Pass An
Amendmen Clarifying That Corporations Are Not People With Constitutional
Rights, And That Unlimited Campaign Spending is Not Free Speech.
I support this amendment wholeheartedly for the simple reason it takes the power of decision out
of the hands of the people in general and concentrates it in the hands of huge corporations and
their multi -millionaire operators and billionaire owners. We lose out to special interests who
literally buy the government to make sure that profits are guaranteed. A case in point is the
recent push by Monsanto to push an anti -labeling law supporting the genetically modified foods
industry through Congress which is coming up before the U.S. Senate and which would take the
decision to label foods out of state hands. The public has a right to call for safe food through
their local legislatures since it is their health which is at stake, but the $millions spent by
Monsanto to stop such laws from being enacted would prevent the public from knowing if what
they were eating was pesticide free or not. In turn, Monsanto could continue to market and profit
from the pesticides and pesticide dependent plants they produce for market.
The strength of big corporate banks, chemical companies, food companies and others will end up
guiding the U.S. away from democratic principles toward an even more powerful oligarchy.
Thank you for your consideration.
