RESOLUTION NO. 31° 15
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND
RECREATION TO AWARD FUNDS TO KAILAPA COMMUNITY
ASSOCIATION
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii
County Code (2005 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of$25,000
to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the
grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance
or resolution; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County
Code states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than
profit-making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the
Internal Revenue Code; and
WHEREAS, the Kailapa Community Association, which qualifies as a
nonprofit organization as defined above, is working to develop a community park and
playground; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to provide
$71,000 to the Kailapa Community Association; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to defray some of the expense
involved in developing the community park and playground indicated above; now,
therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, in
accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii County
Code, the Department of Parks and Recreation is authorized to provide a grant of
$71,000 to the Kailapa Community Association to supplement the costs of developing
a community park and playground.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance
Department, and the Department of Department of Parks and Recreation.
