Re: Provide Funds to the Kailapa Community Association
The Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to provide $71,000 to the Kailapa
Community Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. County funds will be used to
help defray some of the costs associated with the development of a community park and
playground.
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
$71,000 to the Kailapa Community Association, pursuant to Hawai`i County Code (2005
Edition as amended) Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A).

A. REQUEST:
Pursuant to the Hawaii County Code section 2-139(a)(3)(A), Council approval is requested for a grant award
of$71,000 to the Kailapa Community Association, a 501(c)(3) organization, to develop a community park
and playground.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Department of Parks and Recreation would like to provide a $71,000 grant to Kailapa Community
Association to defray some of the expenses involved in building a community park and playground. The
community project consists of a community pavilion, playground and gardens. The facility will be available
for meetings, family gathering, after-school programs, educational workshops and recreational events and
will be available to serve the entire community.
