Mr. Chairman and Members of the Council:
I am Paige De Lima, a citizen of Hilo and I am here in opposition to
Resolution 272-15. The subject matter of the resolution has
engendered much public discussion, involved your review of existing
policies, and is a matter that is still under investigation by the Attorney
General.
I oppose the resolution because from my perspective, the objective and
aim of the resolution is "politics". I view a vote in favor of the
resolution as vote to play politics. I view a vote against the resolution as
a vote that understands that a serious investigation is still underway and
that we should not be making a political statement when the Attorney
General has not completed the investigation.
