Subject: Vote NO on Resolution 272-15
Aloha Council Members,
Please vote NO on Resolution 272-15, a Resolution to "Reprimand Mayor William P Kenoi."
As stated in the resolution itself, there are already processes investigating whether or not the Mayor's pCard use
was criminal in nature. If it was illegal, then there will be legal repercussions down the road.
Additionally, as stated in the resolution, the Mayor has publicly apologized for using the pCard for personal use
and has repaid the county for those personal purchases. In other words, he has tried to make amends for the
moral wrong that he has done.
None of us is perfect. We all make mistakes. Recognizing our own flaws, individually and as a society, we
should always be willing to offer forgiveness when it is requested. Forgiveness does not absolve one of the
consequences of one's actions. However, it does open the way for healing between those who have been
wronged and the wrongdoer.
Resolution 272-15 is punitive in nature. It does not move us toward healing and change. Rather, it binds us to
the hurts, wrongs and hard feelings of the past. The past cannot be changed. Only our actions today, in the
present, can take us in a new direction.
As a County, we have been through a tremendous amount of hardship in these last years. It has taken
collaborative effort and work of the Mayor, the Council, and the Citizens of the county to overcome the
devastation caused by Hurricane Iselle and the threat of the June 27h Lava flow. Collectively, we have tried to
make the county, our home, a better place.
It would be wrong to publicly reprimand the Mayor without also acknowledging the many good things that he

I encourage you to let go of the past. Vote no on Resolution 272-15. In your hearts offer the Mayor some
forgiveness. Trust in legal processes that are already underway to dish out punishment, if it is so warranted.
Most importantly, let us move forward with the work of making the County of Hawaii a better place to live and
raise our families.
