RE: RESOLUTION 272-15
It's abundantly clear Mayor Billy Kenoi violated rules governing pCards. He has
acknowledged this, reimbursed the county, and this is being fully investigated by the
State AG, which has investigative authority and expertise. Let the AG do his job.
As a resident of Hawaii County, I am deeply saddened and disappointment by this
error in judgement. However, the Hawai'i County Council is not the Mayor's
supervisor. You have your own kuleana and this needs to be your focus.
Poor judgement by one should not become poor judgement by all. Please, Council
members, do not spend time on this resolution, which is little more than a harassment
strategy. Please focus on serving the needs of your constituents. That is your sworn
kuleana.
I would add that the needs of constituents are huge - including an exploding homeless
crisis islandwide that includes working families whose children are living in cars on the
beach, as well as aging infrastructure and lack of adequate facilities for a rapidly
growing population, not to mention an economy and cost of living that is daunting for
both individuals and businesses.
I come from District 9. 1 reviewed the recent County budget with a fine tooth comb.
Our District did not receive a fair share of CIP funding, yet we (South Kohala), along
with North Kona, generate more than half of this island's property taxes.
Why this disparity. It's pretty clear that our Council member is not focused on our
district's priorities. I am asking, humbly and respectfully, that Councilwoman Wille
stop wasting time and extremely limited resources. Stay focused on the issues that
are harming our children, families and community.
