Your Committee on Human Services and Social Services, to which was referred Resolution
No. 311-15, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 311-15, transmitted by Council Member Maile David, via Communication
No. 514 dated September 23, 2015, authorizes the exemption of certain code requirements,
pursuant to Section 201H-38 of the Hawai`i Revised Statues for the proposed Mohouli Heights
Senior Neighborhood Project Phases II and III in South Hilo, Hawai`i, Tax Map Key(3)2-4-
001:184.
Jerry McComber, Development Manager, Hawai`i Community Development, presented the
Council with a description of the project and clarified that the project will be a 2-story complex
as opposed to the existing single-story facility.
Alan Rudo and Brian Nishimura, Housing and Community Development Specialists, discussed
the number of units, density and location of the project and stated it will accommodate the Hilo
Adult Day Care Center and serve the town of Hilo as well as other areas.
Council members Chung and Onishi expressed their support for the Mohouli Heights Senior
neighborhood project.
Your Committee on Human Services and Social Services is in accord with the purpose an intent
of Resolution 311-15, and recommends its adoption.
