Subject: Resolution 326-15 Authorizing negotiations for Halelua
Aloha,
I, Joe Carvalho, am a resident of Halaula, Kohala and I support Resolution 326-15 calling for the start of
negotiations by the County to purchase the lands at Halelua.
It is time we preserve the Kula Iwi, the homelands, of Kamehameha and the places from which he began the
unification of the islands.
The area is a treasure of historical sites, cultural locations and monk seal and seabird habitats
our family uses the area for recreation, fishing, surfing and gathering of seafood.
The community has repeatedly identified this as an important area for recreation.
