Testimony Submitted with Respect to
Resolution 326-15 Authorizing negotiations for Halelua
November 17, 2015
My name is Beth Thoma Robinson. I have been a resident of North Kohala since
2005. 1 am testifying in support of Resolution 326-15 authorizing negotiations for
the acquisition of TMK 3-5-3-7-10 known as "Halelua".
As a member of the Kohala community, I volunteered for the process leading to the
adoption of our Community Development Plan, in which the number one priority for
coastal access was identified to be Kapanai'a to `Ainakea.
The oceanfront parcel covered by this Resolution, TMK 3-5-3-7-10, "Halelua", is part
of that area, and is significant for its history and cultural resources, environmental
sensitivity, and community use for recreation.
The purchase is of even more importance given the unique opportunity to preserve
an entire stretch of coastline, from Kauhola Point through Kapana'ia
I am also a licensed real estate broker, serving as Broker -in -Charge, Big Island for
Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers.
As I previously listed the Halelua oceanfront parcel and have shown it to private
buyers, I am intimately familiar with this land. It is clear to me that this is land
worthy of preservation, and dear to the Kohala community.
I have had the privilege to list and sell other properties for Vipassana Hawaii, owner
of the Halelua parcel, including the three parcels sold in 2014 immediately mauka of
the oceanfront parcel covered by this resolution. The current owners of the adjacent
property, Patrick and Mindy Meiering of Inhabit Hawaii, LLC, have asked me to
include in my testimony their complete support for Resolution No. 326-15.
Thank you for your consideration. Many Kohala groups and individuals are
prepared work with the County to insure the success of the purchase and
stewardship of these lands.
