It seems as though this issue could be resolved if the nominating council member recused himself from the vote to confirm. I look forward to hearing Corporation Counsel's thoughts on this bill and my suggestion. I still do not support the Mayor's appointing the Ethics Board Members. This might not be a priority for whoever is Mayor as much as it would be for the Council Members or an independent selection commission. What would you propose to do if for some reason the Mayor just doesn't nominate someone to fill Ethics Board positions, even if there are applicants, as has happened recently? In the event that the Finance Committee will not support Bill 101 in its current version, I would support at a minimum the increase in the number of Ethics Board members to nine, with one being appointed from each Council District.
