A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOSPICE OF HILO TO
PURCHASE LAPTOPS AND SOFTWARE TO IMPROVE PATIENT CARE AND
SERVICES.
WHEREAS, health care is changing at a rapid pace, with regulations requiring
organizations to provide electronic records to verify that services are meeting standards and to
qualify for reimbursements; and
WHEREAS, in the past few years, there has been a steady increase in the number of
patients and families seeking end -of -life counseling and assistance, which are services provided
by Hospice of Hilo in patients' homes or at the Hospice facility in Hilo; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to
improve the lives of patients by offering support, guidance, and compassionate care of the body,
mind, and spirit; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo has identified a financial need to puchase new laptops and
software to be used for home visits and records maintenance to better serve its clients, as well as
providing its clinical staff access to advanced skills training to achieve and maintain excellence
in their field; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to
the Office of Aging to provide a grant to Hospice of Hilo to purchase new laptops and software
to improve patient care and services; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the County Executive on Aging and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
