REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> AND MASS TRANSIT <br /> DATE: January 5, 2016 Re: Comm.No. 608 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:00 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit,to which was referred Comm. No.608,reports as follows: <br /> Communication 608,transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated December 15, 2015,requests review and <br /> favorable recommendation of the nomination of Ms, Wendy Davis. Ms.Davis is a lifelong resident of Hawai'i. <br /> She is the owner of Tropical Vending as well as a community liaison with the Department of Education. Ms. <br /> Davis is a member of the Puna Community Action Team and also a member of Youth Empowerment Services. <br /> She is a former Girl Scout troop leader. Ms. Davis states that she is not affiliated with any political party. If <br /> confirmed, she will fill a vacant term to end on December 31, 2019. <br /> A motion to approve the nomination was made by Mr.Onishi and seconded by Ms.David. Executive Assistant <br /> to Mayor Kenoi, Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, introduced and provided background information on Nominee <br /> Davis, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's favorable action of this appointment. <br /> During discussion, Your Committee expressed confident support and gratitude for Ms. Davis' interest in <br /> serving on the Transportation Commission. When given the opportunity to speak.Ms.Davis mentioned in her <br /> experience she has seen Hawai'i Island grow and continue to do so. With that growth,comes along the growth <br /> of traffic concerns. Ms. Davis looks forward to playing a vital role as a commissioner in being part of making <br /> a difference.
