REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> AND MASS TRANSIT <br /> DATE: February 2, 2016 Re: Comm.No. 634 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 2:10 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit,to which was referred Comm.No. 634, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 634,transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated January 8, 2016,requests review <br /> and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Ms. Amy Bircher of Council District 8 to the County <br /> of Hawai`i Transportation Commission. <br /> After the close of public testimony, Deputy County Clerk, Jon Henricks, read Comm.No. 634 into the <br /> record, preceding a motion made by Ms. Poindexter and seconded by Ms. Wille to approve the <br /> nomination. Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, introduced and provided <br /> background information on Nominee Bircher, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's <br /> favorable action of this appointment. <br /> Ms. Amy Bircher is a 28-year resident of Hawai`i. She is presently the Office Manager of Lanihau <br /> Properties, LLC. Ms. Bircher is a board member and treasurer of Habitat for Humanity, West Hawai`i. <br /> She states that she is a democrat. If confirmed, Ms. Bircher will serve a vacant term to end on <br /> December 31, 2020. <br /> Prior to discussion, Ms. Bircher appeared in front of Your Committee with an opening statement <br /> expressing gratitude for her nomination and that she will help in any way she can. <br /> During discussion,Your Committee expressed confident support and gratitude for Ms. Bircher's interest <br /> and willingness to serve on the Transportation Commission.
