RESOLUTION NO. 408 16
A RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND THE
DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION TO PROVIDE MATCHING FUNDS
FOR THE PLANNING, DESIGN,AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE HONOKA`A
TRACK AND FIELD AND STADIUM.
WHEREAS, Honoka`a Park is administered by the Hawai`i County Department of Parks
and Recreation through executive order from the State of Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, Honoka`a Park has a County-developed and County-maintained sand track
and field that is need of improvements; and
WHEREAS, the community, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the State of
Hawai`i Department of Education have committed to a collaborative effort to upgrade the
existing track and field and provide stadium facilities for improved safety and to accommodate
the needs of the public and Honoka`a area schools; and
WHEREAS, the construction of a new stadium and track and field at Honoka`a Park will
be shared by the community, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the State of Hawai`i
Department of Education; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it
hereby urges the State Department of Education and the Department of Parks and Recreation to
work together to provide matching funds for the planning, design, and construction of a new
stadium and track and field improvements in Honoka`a Park.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Honorable David Y. Ige, Governor of the State of Hawai`i; Kathryn Matayoshi,
Superintendent of the Department of Education; the Honorable Representative Mark Nakashima;
the Honorable William P. Kenoi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; Clayton Honma, Director of
Parks and Recreation; and Rachelle Matsumura, Principal of Honoka`a High and Intermediate
School.
