RESOLUTION NO. `}z7 16
.A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAMAKUA
HARVEST, INC., FOR THE INAUGURAL HAMAKUA AGRICULTURAL FESTIVAL.
WHEREAS, Hamakua Harvest, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose vision
is to promote and advance Hamakua agriculture by supporting local farmers, enriching the
region's social fabric, and promoting healthy, rural lifestyles for the benefit of Hamakua's
communities, economy, and environment; and
WHEREAS, with the support of the Department of Research and Development,
Hamakua Harvest, Inc., is coordinating the inaugural Hamakua Agricultural Festival, a two-day
event that will celebrate and promote Hamakua farm products; and
WHEREAS, the first day of the event will feature family-oriented educational speakers
and interactive demonstrations, the Keiki Community Garden supported by the Hamakua Youth
Foundation, farm and food vendors, local artists and artisans, and live entertainment; and
WHEREAS, the second day of the event will connect residents and visitors with local
farmers by offering farm tours throughout the region for a behind -the -scenes look at the daily life
of a producer in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, bringing the community and visitors together to celebrate Hamakua's
agricultural past, present, and future will bolster and help to sustain local producers' direct
marketing opportunities; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Ilawai'i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Hamakua Harvest, Inc., for
tent rental, table/chair rental, entertainment, and other miscellaneous materials and supplies
associated with the inaugural Hamakua Agricultural Festival; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAVI that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
