Council Members, • I, STACEY BREINING, support Bill 140 because I am deeply concerned by the negative health impacts that single- use styrofoam and plastic have on our marine wildlife and us. Styrofoam continues to find its way into the ocean and can end up being ingested by numerous marine animals for years to come. When we sit down to eat our local fish, chances are that we could be ingesting styrofoam chemicals too. I am emboldened by our keiki to make a commitment to change this behavior and show them that we will take steps to support a cleaner future for all. In addition, styrofoam does not go away. It does NOT biodegrade. This means that most or all the styrofoam that has been produced STILL EXISTS TODAY. As an Island, we must reduce our waste and keep unnecessary plastics out of our landfills!
