Subject: Support Bill 140 reducing use of"styrofoam"
Aloha Council Members,
I writing to support Bill 140 which would reduce use of Polystyrene Foam "Styrofoam" in food containers and
food serviette ware.
Having traveled in "developing" countries, I have witnessed first hand the plague that is Styrofoam. Seeing
streets, rivers, and fields littered with large quantities of single use Styrofoam containers that are essentially
"eternal." Think about that, the Styrofoam in cup that we use today for a drink of coffee will be around when
when our children's children are raising their children.
There are alternative shorter lived food containers available today. Yes, short term Styrofoam is "cheaper." In
the long term, when we are building yet another rubbish dump, or spending money to clean up Styrofoam in the
environment, we will be paying a hefty price for all of the "Styrofoam" we continue to use.
Please support Bill 140 with your votes.
