Subject: Support of Bill 140
Aloha, Council person!
I currently reside in the Hamakua district of Hawai`i Island and I fully support Bill 140! Our Island
desperately needs to begin purchasing/using food containers and service ware that are either recyclable or
compostable. It is necessary for the health of our Island community to divert as much waste as possible from
landfills. There are many alternatives to styrofoam and#6 plastics, that serve as safe and effective food
containers while being compostable or recyclable (made of plastics #1, #2, ).
Again, I support the following- .
Bill 140: AMENDS CHAPTER 20, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 ( 2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED), BY
ADDING A NEW ARTICLE RELATING TO REDUCTION OF POLYSTYRENE FOAM " STYROFOAM" FOOD •
CONTAINERS AND FOOD SERVICE WARE
Prohibits the sale, disbursement, and use of polystyrene foam containers and food service ware
by a food provider or vendor to customers effective January 1, 2018.
