Dear Chairman Kanuha and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Joseph B. Clarkson from the Hamakua District to the
Hawai'i County Windward Planning Commission. Mr. Clarkson is a 29-year resident of
Hawai'i. From 2008 until his retirement in 2012, Mr. Clarkson was employed by
Waikoloa Development as the Chief Engineer of Queens' Marketplace.
Mr. Clarkson is the President of Paauilo Mauka Kalopa Community Association. He is
the Vice President of Friends of Honokaa Pool, and the Board Chair of Imua Hamakua.
He states that he is a Democrat. If confirmed, Mr. Clarkson will serve a vacant term to
end on December 31, 2016. At that time, he will be eligible to be reappointed to a full
year term to end on December 31, 2020. Hawaii County Charter Section 13-4(c),
states that "members of any board or commission appointed for a term of two years or
less shall be eligible to succeed themselves for an additional full term.
