A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS
HAWAII INC. FOR THE ANNUAL BIG ISLAND AREA GAMES.
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
dedicated to helping children and adults with intellectual disabilities improve their quality of life
through sports; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. helps athletes to develop physical fitness,
demonstrate courage and skill, experience joy, build friendships, and participate in the sharing of
gifts with fellow athletes, families, and the community; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics West Hawai`i hosts the annual Big Island Area Games
and is seeking funds to help offset the cost for food, equipment, and uniforms for approximately
70 volunteers and 150 participants; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to
the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. to
support the annual Big Island Area Games hosted by Special Olympics West Hawai`i; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
