RESOLUTION NO. 477 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PACIFIC
TSUNAMI MUSEUM FOR THE PURCHASE OF PORTABLE EXHIBIT DISPLAYS.
WHEREAS, the Pacific Tsunami Museum (PTM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,
whose goals are to promote public tsunami education for the people of Hawaii and visitors
worldwide, preserve the social and cultural history of Hawai`i, and serve as a living memorial to
those who lost their lives in past tsunami events; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with its mission, PTM promotes outreach within the local
community by hosting exhibit opening functions to inform the public of new displays; and
WHEREAS, PTM is seeking funds to assist with expenses related to purchasing portable
exhibit displays to conduct tsunami education and outreach throughout Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, the exhibits would be used at disaster preparedness fairs, tsunami
awareness events, ocean safety events, and schools; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to
the Civil Defense Agency to provide a grant to PTM for the purchase of portable exhibit displays
for its community outreach initiative; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Civil Defense Administrator and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
