NAMING THE PIIHONUA PARK THE "GILBERT CARVALHO PARK".
WHEREAS, Gilbert Carvalho was the most outstanding
athlete our community has ever produced; and
WHEREAS, Gilbert Carvaiho' s achievements were those
of an American born and reared in a community where fierce,
but friendly, competition in the field of athletics is the
order of the day ; and
WHEREAS, the citizens and residents of the County of
Hawaii, deeply appreciative of his many and varied contri-
butions to the sports world of our County, are desirous
of renaming Piihonua Park the "GILBERT CARVALHO PARK" in
memory of Hawaii' s greatest athlete,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors
in and for the County of Hawaii that the present Piihonua
Park, in Hilo, District of South Hilo, County of Hawaii , be
hereby designated and named the "GILBERT CARVALHO PARK".
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and he is hereby directed and authorized to send
a copy of this resolution to Mrs. Gilbert Carvalho, widow of
the late Gilbert Carvalho.
