RESOLUTION NO. 487 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR A BRONZE PLAQUE FOR GILBERT
CARVALHO PARK IN HILO.
WHEREAS, in 1955, the Board of Supervisors deemed the late Gilbert Carvalho to be
the most outstanding athlete ever produced by the community, declaring that"Gilbert Carvalho's
achievements were those of an American born and reared in a community where fierce, but
friendly, competition in the field of athletics is the order of the day"; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 204. introduced by then Supervisor of the 1st Representative
District, Hiroshi Tanaka, and adopted by the Board of Supervisors on September 21, renamed the
existing Pi`ihonua Park to the "Gilbert Carvalho Park" in Kaumana, Hilo; and
WHEREAS, a commemorative bronze plaque will be installed at the Gilbert Carvalho
Park in Hilo, Hawai`i, in honor of the late Gilbert Carvalho, an exemplary citizen and athlete
who demonstrated his love and devotion to his family and his community throughout his all too
brief lifetime; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to
the Department of Parks and Recreation for the purchase and installation of a bronze plaque at
Gilbert Carvalho Park; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
