COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII ••b�.TT v•: • Ott OF•NF•i' RESOLUTION NO. 504 16 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HUI MALAMA I KE ALA `ULILI TO SUPPORT THE MALAMA `AINA KOHOLALELE AND MALAMA `AINA PA`AUILO COMMUNITY GARDENS PROJECT. WHEREAS, Hui Malama i ke Ala `Ulili, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is leading by example to demonstrate the care and respect that is required for sustainable cultural gathering practices by assisting with two community gardens in Pa'auilo: Malama `Aina Koholalele and Malama `Aina Pa'auilo; and WHEREAS, Hui Malama i ke Ala `Ulili's mission is to re-establish the systems that sustain our community through educational initiatives and land-based practices that cultivate abundance, regenerate responsibilities, and promote collective health and well-being; and WHEREAS, the gardens provide proactive community gardening, a local food system, and aloha `aina restoration efforts to cultivate a consciousness and living practice of aloha aina and kuleana within the community; and WHEREAS, with the mala(garden) as the classroom, students from Pa'auilo Elementary and Intermediate School, in partnership with the Pa'auilo Boys and Girls Club, will work together to engage in the skills of gardening from "seed to seed" (planting, harvesting, and replanting), kaulana mahina(lunar calendar) and environmental observation practices, sharing 'al pono (healthy food) preparation techniques and methods, and sharing mo`olelo (stories/history) of Hamakua; and WHEREAS, funds are needed to help provide for garden tools, invasive tree and brush clearing supplies (chainsaw, weed whacker, pruners, gloves, chaps, and woodcutter helmet system), hosting and cultural food preparation supplies (tents, chairs, and poi boards), and educational materials; and WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Hui Malama i ke Ala `illili for the Malama `Aina Koholalele and Malama `Aina Pa'auilo Community Gardens project; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI9 that the following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: FUND: General AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $10,000 OUT AND FROM: 010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC -Contingency Relief $10,000 CREDITED TO: 010.161.5161.22 Department of Research and Development $10.000 Agriculture R&D OCE 115 Misc. Contract Services (Hui Malama i ke Ala`Ulili-Pa`auilo Community Gardens Project) BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
