RESOLUTION NO. S21 16
A RESOLUTION TO AWARD A GRANT TO THE FOOD BASKET, INC., TO ASSIST
WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO THE PAHOA PANTRY AND SOUP KITCHEN
UTILIZING CONTINGENCY RELIEF FUNDS PREVIOUSLY APPROPRIATED AND
AWARDED BY RESOLUTION NO. 307-15.
WHEREAS, the Council approved Resolution No. 307-15 on October 20, 2015, which
transferred Contingency Relief funds to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a$5,000
grant to the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel to defray the cost of food and eating
utensils for the Pahoa Pantry and Soup Kitchen; and
WHEREAS, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel is unable to execute a
contract with the County as authorized in Resolution No. 307-15; and
WHEREAS, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel will be replaced with
The Food Basket, Inc., which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that feeds the disadvantaged
people in Hawai`i County; and
WHEREAS, The Food Basket, Inc., works with the Pahoa Pantry and Soup Kitchen to
provide a safe, alcohol-free place for people to receive a meal; and
WHEREAS, The Food Basket, Inc., will distribute food to the Pahoa Pantry and Soup
Kitchen to support the people of Puna who are in need of assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports the intent of this resolution;
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAUI that
Contingency Relief funds previously appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control and
awarded to the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel by Resolution No. 307-15 will
now be awarded to The Food Basket, Inc.,to defray the cost of food and eating utensils for the
Pahoa Pantry and Soup Kitchen.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance.
