Re: Resolution No. 516-16, Draft 2; a Resolution Urging the Administrations of the
State ofHawai`i and the County of I lawail to Take Appropriate Steps to Prevent
the Spread of Rapid `Ohi`a Death.
Attached is Resolution No. 516-16, as amended to Draft 2 with the contents of Communication
No. 850.1, as duly approved by the Committee on Agriculture, Water and Energy Sustainability
on May 3, 2016.
Prior to approval, the first clause in No. 2 of Communication No. 850.1 was verbally amended
to read as follows(material to be deleted is bracketed and stricken: material to be added is
underscored):
"BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Research and Development,
under the direction and guidance of the Administration, is urged to form a partnership with the
University of Hawaii, the Hawaii Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, and Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners[,including specialists in hula, Hawaiian
literature, traditional building techniques, and regional uses of-thy. '6hi'a tree,] to advise. inform
and educate the public about Rapid `Ohi`a Death."
