Subject: Proposed Amendments to Bill 140 - Comm.664.49 and Bill 204
Aloha AllLi —
I Strongly SUPPORT the proposed amendments to Bill 140, Reduction of Polystyrene (Styrofoam) Food Containers
& Food Service Ware, as well as Bill 204 for public education to reduce use of Polystyrene.
As an environmental, health and safety engineer, I can confirm that Polystyrene is VERY detrimental to marine and
wildlife. These creatures ingest this material, cannot digest it and many times die. In addition, Styrofoam is not
degradable, sitting for years and years on land, as well as at sea.
As mentioned in the proposed Amendments to the Bill, this material ends up filling up are already full landfills on the
Island, since it does not degrade.
I encourage all of you to Vote in Favor of the Amendments in Bill 140 for our environment on land and in the sea.
Hopefully, by Hawaii Island, passing this Amended Bill it will encourage other neighboring Islands to follow the example
Thank you for sharing my observations and my opinion.
Respectfully Submitted
