Subject: Testimonial support for Bill 140
Aloha Hawaii County Council,
I am writing to express my stalwart support of Bill 140 to reduce the use of styrofoam in food services. .AS'`::'
much as the 'plate lunch' is an iconic symbol of Hawaiian culture,the ingrained imperative to take care of the
oceans and the land is the legacy we want to leave for Hawaii. As a citizen who regularly picks up trash on our
beaches and from our near-shore coral reefs, I have seen the staggering amount of styrofoam products polluting
our most precious ecosystems, whether they were actively littered or just blown away. Moving away from
styrofoam products will promote a shift for fast and local food services to use more sustainable, biodegradable
containers with a reduced impact on the natural world. There is no reason we can't have our pork lau lau, two
scoops rice, mac salad, and a healthy natural environment as well.
