Aloha Council Member Onishi,
I write to express my opposition to Bill 165 which would add a County
of Hawaii surcharge of one-half percent on top of the current 4.0 _
General Excise Tax. o

Let's not forget that Hawaii's General Excise Tax is regressive.
Lower-income families pay a larger percentage of their total income in
General Excise Tax than other families that may be proportionately
less. Passing this increased tax will hurt the lower income folks on t�
the island more than anyone else. :7
We are not taxed too little, the government spends too much.
Revamping the property tax system should be a higher priority than it's N '
been given so that the proper revenue can be obtained - stop the abuse
of that system.
Thank you for the opportunity to express my thoughts on this important
matter in advance of Tuesday's vote.
