William Walter
Treasurer RE: Statement in Opposition to Bill 165
Nathan Colgrove
Immediate Past The Hawai`i Island Chamber of Commerce(HICC) appreciates this opportunity
President
Chuck Erskine to provide testimony regarding Bill 165. HICC, which comprises over 300
member businesses, organizations and professionals represents the voice of
Directors business on Hawai`i Island.
Lincoln Ashida ' HICC is opposed to Bill 165. HICC's position is that establishing a one-half
David Bock percent general excise and use tax surcharge increase is an unacceptable
Russell Chin financial burden to our businesses and community at large. Had the GE tax
Newton Chu been a"simple sales"tax, HICC would view it more as a choice for the
John Cross consumer and therefor give it further consideration. As an alternative, HICC
Jackie De Luz would consider supporting an increase of the fuel tax and would support
Watanabe County initiatives to increase the Counties share of the Transient
Jason Fujimoto Accommodation Tax.
