k:r:,.m.r Daranu- county's nonprofit organizations. The funding provided by the Mayor and County Council is critical
to the provision of services for our island's communities.

admirable and very much appreciated.
The funding recommended for The Salvation Army-Family Intervention Services' Independent
Living Skills Program in West Hawai'i will contribute significantly to our ability to provide services
to foster youth and emancipated foster youth ages 12-26. Our program will help these youth
prepare for and manage the transition to productive self-sufficiency in adulthood with a core base
of independent living skills. The goals of the Independent Living Skills Program are to provide:
• a comprehensive life skills based curriculum
• opportunities for foster youth to pursue higher education,vocational training,and/or
employment, and
• linkages and resources to services in the community including: housing, health insurance
and other vital needs
This program is in line with national and local strategies to help mitigate the challenges faced by
' transitioning aged out foster youth, and county funds will support our overall operating costs.
