I am the VP of Operations for Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union and our membership is made up of those who live, regularly work, worship, attend schools or perform volunteer services on the Island of Hawaii,State of Hawaii, and members of their immediate families or household and organizations of such persons. I mention this because,to me,this represents a core value of our philosophy. The fact that we give people the opportunity to join our Credit Union for performing volunteer services on the Island of Hawaii and State of Hawaii illustrates the common purpose of the Credit Union industry as a whole, which is'people helping people'.As we all know,Credit Unions are not-for-profit cooperatives which are owned by their members, and regardless of the overall deposit amount, each member is eligible for a single vote which influences the direction the Credit Union is headed. This demonstrates how everyone has an equal share in the success as well as savings passed along due to the basic structure that Credit Unions are created upon. With regard to Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union, I am proud to say, since December of 2014 we have: • Raised$20,000 for the West Hawaii Community Health Center • Formed the 'Credit Unions for a Cure'team at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Kona event with Big Island FCU and CU Hawaii FCU • Volunteered to pack school supplies for the Kako'o I Na Keiki school supply drive • Raised $15,000 that was donated to the Hawaii Island United Way(HIUW)from our annual employee campaign This represents some of the community involvement and volunteering events that our Credit Union is engaged in and demonstrates our commitment to helping people. In addition,we have school deposit days, financial workshops and student credit unions which illustrate our commitment to financial education aimed at informing and enhancing the awareness of financial responsibility for our future generations. All of these activities represent the positive nature of our industry, as well as the responsible investment of our abilityto impact our communities in ' ances. I honestlybelieve that Bill 212 would simply decrease p our fin p Y the positive fashion that we demonstratively do today. Credit Unions are created by people, in order to help people, and our goal is to positively impact our communities and, ultimately, help people live better and more fulfilling lives. Our strategy requires us to reduce costs in order to pass the savings along to the I HAWAII COMMUNITY FEDERAL CRE JRTUNRON 73-5611 Olowalu St.,Kailua-Kona,HI 96740 Ph:808.930.7700 Fx:808.930,7684 Toll Free:1.800.514.2328 www.hicommfcu.com members of our communities (or those volunteering in those communities). This is why we are asking you not to repeal the Real Property Tax Exemption for Credit Unions. • Thank you for your time, Ryan McGrady,VP of Operations Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union 73-5611 Olowalu Street, Kailua Kona, HI 96740 PH:(808)930-7610 FX:(808) 930-7684 www.hicommfcu.com
