Subject: Council Testimony Bill 140
I, Christina Fisher,Big Island permanent resident and registered voter,support Bill 140 because I am deeply concerned
by the negative health impacts that single-use EPS foam and plastic have on our marine wildlife and human health. EPS
foam continues to find its way into the ocean and can end up being ingested by numerous marine animals for years to
come.When we sit down to eat our local fish,chances are that we could be ingesting plastics and chemicals too. I am
emboldened by our keiki to make a commitment to change this behavior and show them that we will take steps to
support a cleaner future for all.
I cannot fully understand why any council member would oppose this bill. Many counties in Hawaii have led the way on
banning plastic bags at our many retail locations.This styrofoam issue is paramount to protection our land and natural
resources,including marine life.
Please pass Bill 140,it is the right thing to do.
